Questions for the Denver Chiropractor

Denver Chiropractic Questions

Is chiropractic care safe?

Extremely. Chiropractic care has an impeccable record of safety; it is a conservative and natural approach to wellness that avoids the prescription of addictive drugs, or the incorporation of invasive surgeries. Not convinced? Compare malpractice rates between chiropractors and other healthcare professionals. You'll be relieved to find that the rate of chiropractic malpractice is a fraction of that among other healthcare professionals

What conditions do chiropractors specialize in?

Chiropractic care, the healthcare profession specializing in musculoskeletal disorders and abnormalities within the nervous system, has been around for decades. Chiropractic care is most commonly used to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints. These ailments may include neck pain, back pain, and ailments in the joints of the arms or legs, and/or headaches.

Why do I hear a “popping” sound when adjusted by a chiropractor?

The chiropractic adjustment of a joint often results in the release of a bubble of gas which is stored between joints; thus, the popping sound. It’s the same sound as when you crack your knuckles — the pressure within the joint is released and pain is not a factor.

Do I need a referral from an MD?

No. Doctors of chiropractic (DCs) are primary healthcare providers "The DC can provide all three levels of primary care interventions and therefore is a primary care provider, as are MDs and DOs. The DC's office is a direct access portal of entry to the full scope of service," states The Center for Studies in Health Policy.

Do children need chiropractic care?

Spinal trauma can occur at birth, and so many parents bring their newborns to be examined for vertebral subluxation. (Chiropractic adjusting procedures are, of course, adapted for the baby's spine.) Sometimes health problems that emerge in adulthood can be prevented by early examination by a chiropractor. Most children enjoy their chiropractic adjustments and grow to become healthier than others their age.

Can I see a chiropractor if I am pregnant?

It's always a good time for a better-functioning nervous system. Plus, pregnant mothers often find that chiropractic adjustments actually improve their pregnancy and ease delivery for themselves and their baby. As always, adjusting methods are adapted to a patient's size, age, weight, and condition of health.

What should I expect during my first visit to a chiropractor?

During your first visit, you'll meet with the chiropractor to discuss and document your health history, and then he or she will perform a physical examination (focusing on the spine). It's possible, of course, that other examinations or tests, such as X-rays, may be incorporated. The decision will be made: Is chiropractic care appropriate? If so, and if the patient wishes, a treatment plan will be outlines. Follow-up visits, during which the chiropractor will administer spinal adjustments, can be scheduled — the goal being, to increase the range of motion and restore total health.

What is chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care is based on a simple but powerful premise: With a normally functioning spine and healthy nervous system, the body will naturally self-heal. Chiropractic care is a natural method of healthcare that centers on an "inside out" philosophy of treatment; rather than simply treat the symptoms, chiropractors focus on the body's own ability to overcome disease and distress. Your spine is your body's lifeline; it controls feeling movement, and function throughout the body.

Do chiropractors treat conditions other than low-back pain?

Chiropractors are trained to provide treatment for a wide range of symptoms, from soft-tissue disorders to dysmenorrhea (painful menses). Additionally, conditions of the joints of the extremities — like the ankle, knee, and shoulder can also be addressed though chiropractics. There are many, lesser-known symptoms a chiropractor may treat — symptoms like ulcers, migraine headaches, and children's ear infections. By first addressing spinal abnormalities, chiropractors have helped thousands of individuals overcome their symptoms and lead healthy, happy lives.
